Le Cercle Francais records

Abstract

Le Cercle Francais was initiated in November 1921. The club promoted the use and understanding of the French language outside the classroom. The Le Cercle Francais records, 1921-1922, consists of one bound book that contains the Secretary's report. This report contains the constitution for the club, membership lists, and a record of the club minutes, all written in French.

This collection was assembled by Special Collections staff from orphan manuscripts and items removed from books in the Rare Book Collection.

Erleen Lindeman scrapbook

Abstract Erleen “Lindy” Lindeman transferred to Augustana College in 1941 after completing her first two years at Bethany College. She graduated in 1943 with a degree in English. While at Augustana, she sang in the Augustana Choir and Handel Oratorio Society, participated in a number of religious organizations, athletic groups, and women's clubs, and was a member of the Kappa Tau sorority. The Lyceum records

Abstract

The Lyceum was formed by two rival literary groups at Augustana College, the Adelphic and Phrenokosmian societies, in order to create a lecture and concert series. The first recorded minutes of the Board of the Lyceum of Augustana College and Theological Seminary date from 1892, but there is evidence that the group existed as early as 1890. The Lyceum records, 1892-1931 and undated, has been arranged into three series: Lyceum general body; Lyceum Board of Directors; and ephemera.

Milo Culture Club constitution

Abstract The Milo Culture Club was founded at Augustana College and Theological Seminary 16 October 1902 as an outgrowth of the Milo and La Calcirora gymnastics clubs. It was a coeducational group whose purpose was to "promote culture in general" among its members, and its motto was "More Improvement, Life's Object." his collection consists of a single item: the Milo Culture Club constitution. Abstract Carol Noren was the first woman graduate of Augustana Theological Seminary to enter the ministry. She served as pastor and hospital chaplain in Manchester, England (1975-1976) and associate pastor of Salem United Methodist Church in Barrington, Ill., from 1977 to 1981. Between 1986 and 1993, she served on faculty at Duke Divinity School and currently is the Wesley W. Nelson Professor of Homiletics at North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago. Margaret Olmsted papers

Abstract Margaret Olmsted joined the Augustana faculty in 1921. She was among one of the earliest female professors at the school. In 1937, she was named Associate Professor of Latin and Mathematics. She was known for her love of teaching, and often stressed the importance of studying foreign languages. After 46 years of teaching, she retired in 1967. Abstract

The Olof Rudbeck Society, named after a Swedish scientist and author, was active on Augustana College’s campus from 1910 until 1928. As one of several Swedish literary societies on campus, the Olof Rudbeck Society was established to further the study of Swedish language and literature. The Olof Rudbeck Society records date from 1910 to 1928. The records consist of the group’s constitution, minutes, and one Book Concern receipt.
